Falcons Withstand Women's Tennis Comeback Attempt in MEC Semifinals

CHARLESTON, W. Va. – The Frostburg State Women's Tennis team lost 4-2 to Fairmont State in their first-ever appearance in the MEC Tournament on Saturday.

Fairmont started out strong in doubles play, winning 6-3 at both the two and three spots to earn the point. Sophomore Alyssa Kush and freshman Lauren Ceballos were poised to win at No. 1, but with a 5-3 lead the match was discontinued due to the point already having been decided.

The Bobcats began to battle back in singles play, with juniors Julia Ramos (6-1, 6-2) and Lorena Pintar (6-3, 6-1) both picking up straight-set wins to put up a pair of points on the score. The Falcons kept pace, with wins at Nos. 1 and 5 to get within one match of winning the meet, which they were able to do at the No. 6 spot, beginning late but turning into a straight-set Fairmont win. Ceballos had a battle going at the three spot, as it was suspended with the score at 7-5, 4-6, 0-3 in what would have been the meet decider.

With the loss, Frostburg ends their campaign at 12-10, while Fairmont improves to 11-7 and advances to Sunday's Championship match.
