Seven Take All-MEC Baseball Honors
BRIDGEPORT, W.Va.- The Frostburg State Baseball team had seven players earn All-MEC Honors, as announced on Tuesday by the league office.
Juniors Cy Probst, Danny Estrada, Randy Steen, and Patrick Bauer were all named to the All-MEC First Team for Frostburg. Probst went for a .993 fielding percentage from behind the plate during the regular season, catching three runners stealing, while putting up 29 hits, seven doubles, and a home run offensively on a .319 batting average, scoring 13 runs and collecting 14 RBI as well. Estrada, Frostburg's main right fielder, is batting .353 on the season off 53 hits, six doubles, a triple, and five home runs, while knotting 47 runs and 39 RBI, and stealing 10 bases in 12 attempts. Steen, the Bobcat's center fielder, leads the team and conference with 65 hits, while also leading FSU in triples (3) and stole bases (27). During the regular season, Steen saw a .394 batting average with 11 doubles and five home runs as well, going for 41 runs and 41 RBI. From the mound, Bauer leads the Bobcats in most categories as a starting pitcher, sporting a team-best, and conference-best ERA with 1.49, for the second best in all of Division II. Holding a 6-1 record with 48.1 innings pitched, Bauer leads the team with 51 strikeouts, while leading both the team and the MEC in opposing batting average with .171.
Junior Mikey Guy, third baseman, earned a spot on the All-MEC Second Team, leading FSU with a .401 batting average on 63 hits, 13 doubles, two triples, and seven home runs, while tallying 48 runs and 41 RBI. Senior Max Proctor, another starting pitcher for Frostburg, was selected to the All-MEC Second Team also, posting a 3.98 ERA and a 6-1 record as well, throwing 54.1 innings, capturing a complete game shutout and 41 strikeouts during the regular season.
Junior Jacob McDonald, another key starter for the Bobcats, received All-MEC Honorable Mention, tossing 56.2 innings with a 4.13 ERA, striking out 44 with a record of 8-1 for most wins on the team and in the MEC.
