Nowaczyk headshotFrostburg State University president, Dr. Ronald Nowaczyk, was recently appointed to serve as a new commissioner on the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). His term will continue through December 31, 2029.

“I am humbled and honored to be elected to serve on the MSCHE Commission,” says Dr. Nowaczyk. “The work of MSCHE and other regional accreditors is crucial as we face the challenges in higher education nationally over the next several years.”

FSU is accredited by MSCHE, an institutional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. MSCHE has seven Standards of Excellence that are used to assess compliance with federal requirements and help affirm that the University’s mission and goals align with these standards.

“Ron has been engaged with the Commission for many years, and the breadth of his service and demonstrated respect for the value of accreditation will result in significant contributions as a Commissioner,” says Commission Chair Davie Gilmour. “He brings professional experiences and a diverse perspective from across many areas of higher education, and these will be tremendously important through his work with the Commission.”

Frostburg is periodically required to complete an in-depth self-study in order to be accredited. These self-studies demonstrate FSU’s commitment to continuous improvement and are used to strengthen and sustain the institution. They are also an opportunity to show that FSU continues to strive to meet institutional priorities and create a welcoming campus culture. FSU is currently participating in a self-study in preparation for a 2025 visit from MSCHE.
