In its annual College Guide and Rankings, Washington Monthly once again gave Frostburg State University high marks. FSU ranked 38th in the country overall in its Master’s Level Colleges and Universities category and 49th in the Northeast in the Best Bang for the Buck category.
The College Guide is included in the September/October 2023 issue of Washington Monthly, a bimonthly nonprofit magazine that covers U.S. politics and government.
In its list of master’s level colleges and universities, the publication includes 604 institutions that award a significant number of master’s degrees but few or no doctoral degrees. The best bang for the buck list ranks schools according to how well they help non-wealthy students attain marketable degrees at affordable prices.
According to a description on the magazine’s website, “We rank four-year schools (national universities, liberal arts colleges, baccalaureate colleges, and master’s universities) based on their contribution to the public good in three broad categories: social mobility, research, and providing opportunities for public service.”
