Relay Teams Start and End Strong For Women's Swimming in Win Over Fairmont
FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State Women's Swimming team defeated Fairmont State at home by a final score of 121.5-83.5 on Friday evening.
In the first event of the day, senior Gabriela Betancourt joined junior Alexis Ramsey and sophomores Taylor Emrich and Genna Rippeon in winning the 200-meter medley relay at 4:46.93. Freshman Jenna Handwerger then took the Bobcats' first individual victory in the 200 free at 2:13.97.
Rippeon went on to win the 400 IM (5:11.29), while Ramsey came first in the 100 fly (1:09.82) and Betancourt took the 100 back (1:09.64) just ahead of Emrich (1:10.40). Junior Jayme Meadows was victorious in the 100 free (1:02.30) after just missing out on first in the 50 free (28.51) by .08 seconds.
Handwerger earned Frostburg's final individual win of the day in the 400 free (6:24.88), as the team of Rippeon, Handwerger, Ramsey, and Meadows won a dominant 400 free relay in 4:12.56.
With the win, Frostburg improves to 4-0 on the year, while Fairmont drops to 1-2. The Bobcats next head back on the road as they travel to Mary Washington on Saturday, November 8 at 1 p.m. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
