McCoy Sets Vault Record Again at WVU Last Chance Meet
MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – The Frostburg State men's track program competed at the WVU last chance meet over the weekend, with 30 student athletes placing in the top ten of events.
The top performance on the day came from junior Tom McCoy, who hit an NCAA provisional mark and FSU school record, crossing the 5-meter mark in the pole vault. His 5.01m ties him at 18th in all of Division II and third in the Atlantic region. Senior Nate Mesy took first in the 200 meters with a time of 21.79 and second in the 100 at 10.95, as both times were lifetime bests for him. Also in the 100, junior Paul James III (11.54) and senior Rondell Carlton (11.81) set personal bests, with the former also doing so in the 200 at 23.11. In the 400 meters, freshman Jack Hynes hit a PR at 49.55 in fourth place
In the distance events, freshman Jaxon Jones finished first during the 5,000 meters with a time of 15:55.17, as the field had six Bobcats in the top eight places, including a PR for freshman Matthew Brennan (16:56.50). Sophomore Brandon Stein took second in the 1,500 putting up a time of 4:14.65 for a new career high. Finally, in the 800 meters, freshmen Ryan Connelly (2:00.56) and Nathan Hillhouse (2:18.30) each set personal bests, the former finishing second overall.
Frostburg fared well in the jumps with several top finishes, as in the long jump freshman Nathaniel Shields hit 6.44 meters, good enough for second overall. Sophomores Mason Reed and Bryson Harvey went third and fourth, respectively, in the high jump with marks of 1.83 meters, the former tying his PR and the latter setting a new one. In the throws, redshirt freshman Ire Maboudou set a personal best in the javelin at 40.09m.
