Canapp Leads Men's Swimming to Opening Sweep of WU, WVWC
BUCKHANNON, W. Va. – The Frostburg State Men's Swimming team began their season with a sweep of Wheeling and West Virginia Wesleyan by scores of 155-93 and 189-27, respectively.
Senior Nate Canapp had an outstanding day, picking up three total victories in the 200-yard IM (2:04.25), 500 free (4:57.84), and the 1,000 free (10:17.25). Freshman Bradin Norris and senior Luka Smith both joined him in the multi-win column, the former taking the 200 back (2:03.25) and the 200 fly (2:04.07), and the latter winning the 100 and 200 breast (1:03.62, 2:20.36).
The 200 fly featured a clean FSU sweep, with sophomore Dylan King (2:06.30) and graduate PJ Emrich (2:12.02) taking second and third. Emrich also earned a pair of runner-up finishes, just behind Canapp in the 200 IM at 2:09.16 and placing second in the 200 breast at 2:22.13, as did senior Tave Chanthavong (1:05.27) in the 100 breast behind Smith.
FSU went 1-2 in both the 200 free and the 100 back, the former featuring senior Jaden Tipton (1:53.17) and sophomore Jack Bond (1:54.34) and the latter with junior Josh Horner (57.63) and sophomore Josh Stokes (57.76). Both Horner and Bond also had third-place finishes in the 200 back (2:11.94) and the 500 free (5:14.75), respectively, while junior Alex Whitton (11:03.85) did the same in the 1,000 free.
Sophomore Abe Bias had the final victory of the day, winning the 100 free in 49.19, while junior Andrew Wetherhold placed third (51.30) in both that event and the 100 fly (56.70), with King taking second at 54.69.
With the sweep, Frostburg begins the year 2-0, while WU finished 1-1 and Wesleyan drops to 0-2. FSU next has their home opener on Friday, October 18 against Shippensburg at 5 p.m. for Homecoming Weekend in Frostburg. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
