Boards, Mastria Impress, Johnson Sets Top-10 Mark at Youngstown Invitational

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Frostburg State Women's Track and Field took part in their first competition of 2025 at the Youngstown State Invitational on Friday.
 
Junior Valerie Boards had one of the best days of the sprints group, qualifying for the 60m finals with a 7.93 in eighth place, then coming fourth in the 200m at 25.39, which was the top time among Division II schools. In the latter event, junior Claire Breighner set a new personal best time in 32.72.
 
The distance events featured a trio of PR's set, first by freshman Keira Taylor in the 800m (2:41.06), then sophomore Emily Wishart in the mile (5:26.91) and finally senior Amy Tarcza in the 3k (11:46.78), while senior Chelsea Montau earned a top-10 spot by coming eighth in the 5k (21:36.98). In the long jump, sophomore Bella Mastria tied Boards for FSU's top finish on the day, placing fourth at 5.45m, the best mark among DII athletes.
 
Finally in the throws, junior Lindsay Aldridge impressed with a pair of personal highs in the shot put (8.87m) and the weight throw (9.55), where freshman Sydney Johnson joined her in breaking her previous best at 12.40m, which is also the ninth-best throw in program history.
 
The Bobcats return to action on Saturday, January 25 to take part in the Spire Midwest Open. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
