Men's Track & Field Places Second at Messiah Invitational
MECHANICSBURG, Pa. – The Frostburg State Men's Track & Field team competed in the Messiah Multis & Invite over the span of three days, taking second overall in the meet, just one point shy of tying for first.
Frostburg dominated in multiple events, as freshman Ka'Von Turner knotted first in the 100 meters with a 10.66 time, while also taking first in the 200 meters with a 21.91 time. Freshman Logan Haines placed second behind Turner in the 200 with a finish of 21.92, with both setting PR's in the event, while senior Nate Mesy (50.54), freshman Jack Hynes (50.70), and junior Paul James III (53.01) earned first, second, and fifth, respectively, in the 400 meters. In the 800 meters, freshman Gage Osborne snagged first place with a 1:58.59 time, while freshman Isayah Stewart and sophomore Justin Dowell came in third and ninth, respectively, with finishes of 1:59.16 and 2:08.34.Also in the sprints, freshman Edwin Alfaro ran a 60.55 for fourth place in the 400 meter hurdles.
The Bobcats put three teams in the relays, with the team of freshman Nate Shields, Mesy, Haines, and Turner taking first in the 4x100 meter relay with a 42.08 finish, tying the meet record in the process. The team of Alfaro, Turner, Hynes, and Mesy won the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:26.74, while Dowell, Stewart, Osborne, and Haines came in second with a 3:30.86 time.
In the distance events, freshman Ryan Connelly ran a 4:13.01 in the 1500 meters for second overall, while freshman Jaxon Jones clocked a 4:22.84 for seventh place. Junior Austin Comeaux (15:47.66) and freshman Ray Gibson (16:16.52) collected sixth and seventh place, respectively, in the 5000 meters.
Junior Marquise Burks won the decathlon with a total of 6,503 points, while sophomore Mason Reed captured fifth place with 4,829 points and freshman RJ Eubanks placed sixth at 5,098 points. Junior Tom McCoy knotted first in the pole vault, clearing a height of 4.15m, while freshman Nate Shields placed third in the long jump with a 6.26 finish and senior Rondell Carlton took fifth in the triple jump at 13.12m. Redshirt sophomore Ben Treat placed fourth in the shot put with a 13.67m distance, as redshirt freshman Ire Maboudou (39.02m) received eighth in the hammer throw, with sophomore Scott Haste (36.37m) and freshman Tyler McGraw (35.17m) coming in 10th and 11th, respectively.
