Women's Tennis Sweeps Doubles, Dominates in Singles Play to Earn Victory Over WVSU
FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State Women's Tennis team secured another dominant MEC victory on Thursday evening, defeating West Virginia State at home by a final score of 6-1.
Frostburg swept doubles play, with all three teams picking up victories. No. 1 doubles sophomore Alyssa Kush and freshman Lauren Ceballos, along with No. 2 doubles in juniors Lorena Pintar and Julia Ramos, took their matches with scores of 6-3, with the team of junior Mariaspa Kotsiou and freshman Patricia Castejon winning their contest 6-1 in the No. 3 hole.
The Bobcats put up strong efforts in singles play, taking five out of six matches. Ramos earned a 6-3, 6-4 victory in the second slot of singles, with Ceballos going for a 6-1, 6-2 win at the No. 3 spot. Pintar ended her match in No. 4 singles due to default, taking the first set 6-0, while Castejon received another singles point for FSU in a 6-0, 6-1 No. 5 singles contest. Kotsiou won No. 6 singles by default to round out the victories for Frostburg, as Kush dropped her No. 1 singles match with a 6-3, 6-1 final.
With the win, FSU improves to 10-9 on the season, while West Virginia State falls to 4-7. The Bobcats remain at home, welcoming in Davis & Elkins on Friday, April 26 at 2:30 PM for another conference contest. For more information and updates, please visit frostburgsports.com.
