Robertson Announced as Head Softball Coach
FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State Athletics Department is pleased to announced Associate Athletic Director for External Operations Guy Robertson as the next Head Softball Coach.
"It's a privilege to be named the next softball coach at Frostburg State", said Robertson. "I have gotten to know many of the current players over the last few years and I am thrilled to be a part of their journey. Thank you to Athletic Director Troy Dell for trusting me with this program. Thank you to my wife Lisa, and daughters Alex and Gabi for their unwavering support and encouragement. After six years away, I am so excited to be back in the dugout! It's hard to put into words how grateful I am!"
Robertson is no stranger to the coaching stage, having been at the head of the baseball program from 2008-19. Making his name and program known in the Division III era, Robertson sits as the second-most winningest coach in Frostburg Baseball history with 308 wins. He led the team to three NCAA Tournaments during his tenure, including a World Series appearance in 2015, after taking home the NCAA Midwest Regional Title. In 2015, Robertson and his squad won a total of 43 games to hold the program record for most wins in a single season. In his 12-year stint, Robertson collected two CAC tournament titles, as well as three regular season titles, two in the CAC and one in the AMCC. Robertson was a member of the 2024 Hall of Fame Class, being the sixth coach to be inducted and the 50th baseball inductee.
After the 2019 season, Robertson decided to move into his current position, Assistant AD for External Operations, after serving as the Associate AD for Compliance from 2007-18 while coaching. Since then, Robertson has helped improve the donor and sponsorship levels of the university to hold partnerships with eight organizations.
Moving over to the softball diamond, Robertson currently serves as the Organization Director and Head Coach of Western Maryland Fusion, a travel softball team in the area. He has helped expand the organization to three teams in 12U, 16U, and 18U since helping the program starting in 2021. He also served as the Head and Assistant Coach of the Fort Hill High School Softball team from 2021-2024. During his time with Fort Hill and Fusion, Robertson has helped coach a handful of current Frostburg State Softball players.
Robertson graduated with his Bachelor's Degree in Sport Management from Elon in 1999, where he played baseball all four years. He then went on to earn his Master's Degree in Exercise Science from McDaniel in 2003.
