Men's Swimming Competes at Franklin and Marshall Invite
LANCASTER, Pa. – The Frostburg State Men's Swimming team competed in the Franklin and Marshall Invite Friday-Sunday, where the team finished ninth with 389.5 total points.
Senior Nate Canapp got things started on the weekend for Frostburg with a ninth place finish in the 500-yard free, with a 4.43.29 swim for the best time in the B Final. Later in the day, Canapp (4:23.88) took 11th overall for a third place finish in the C Final of the 400-yard IM, while freshman Bradin Norris (4:33.03) and sophomore Jack Bond (4:45.87) finished out the event in the C Final as well.
Sophomore Abe Bias swam a 1:50.22 in the 200 yard free for 10th overall and the second-best in the B Final, while sophomore Dylan King showed a 54.10 time in the 100-yard fly for a 20th overall finish. Bias, along with sophomore Josh Stokes, junior Andrew Wetherhold, and sophomore Tory Reynolds clocked a 1:27.01 time in the 200-yard free relay for a 12th place finish, while the team of junior Josh Horner, freshman Dylan Dela-Vega, freshman Nate Schwarz, and senior Jaden Tipton knotted a 15th place finish in the 400-yard medley relay with a 1:27.01 time.
Canapp started day two off with a 15th overall place in the 400-yard IM with a 4:16.16 swim for a spot in the B Final, while Norris (4:17.51) and Bond (4:26.88) qualified for the C Final. King sowed a 51.73 time in the 100-yard fly for a spot in the C Final, while Bias swam a 1:44.06 in the 200-yard free, tying for the best time in the B Final.
FSU had two swimmers qualify for the 100-yard back with Stokes taking 13th place with a 53.44 time, and Horner snatching 17th place with a 54.01 time. Tipton, Bias, Norris, and Canapp combined for a seventh place time of 7:08.40 in the 800-yard free relay, while Stokes, King, Reynolds, and senior Tave Chanthavong swam for a 12th place time of 1:35.59 in the 200-yard medley relay.
Rounding out the meet on the final day of competition, Norris placed sixth in the 200-yard back with a 1:56.84 swim, while Canapp captured third (16:31.72) in the 1650-yard free, and Bond (16:59.07) took ninth. Bias received a spot in the C Final with a 47.31 finish in the 100-yard free, while graduate PJ Emrich also knotted spot in the C Final on the day with a 2:13.49 swim in the 200-yard breast.
King (1:59.38) and Norris (2:01.09) placed in the 200-yard fly with the former seeing a spot in the B Final and the latter earning a spot in the C Final, while the team of Wetherhold, Tipton, Stokes, and Bias finished in 13th place in the 400-yard free relay with a time of 3:13.23.
