Men's Swimming Places Sixth at Franklin & Marshall Invitational
LANCASTER, Pa. – The Frostburg State Men's Swimming team earned sixth place out of nine total teams over the weekend at the Franklin & Marshall Invitational.
The first event of the meet was the 500-yard freestyle, where out of 51 competitors, junior Nate Canapp earned a spot in the A Final, placing sixth overall at 4:43.77. Freshman Jack Bond came 23rd overall in the C Final, swimming a 4:55.77.
In the 200-yard IM, freshman Dylan King had a strong showing, getting into the B Final and placing 13th out of a total 67 swimmers, with his 1:58.25 being the sixth-fastest time in program history. Sophomore Julian Najarro Sedar qualified for the A Final in a tightly-contested 50-yard free, coming in seventh overall out of 81 at 21.31.
During the 200-yard free relay, the team of seniors Noah Loper and Jackson Miller, junior Mikkel LeBlanc, and Najarro Sedar finished seventh out of 17 teams, swimming a 1:26.05 that was a new season-high in the event.
Canapp starting day two out with a bang, placing fifth overall in the 400-yard IM at 4:13.21, taking over four seconds off his preliminary time. Also in the event, senior PJ Emrich came 14th in the B Final, with his 4:21.69 good enough for fifth all-time in school history. Bond also put himself into the top 10, earning a 4:26.72 in the preliminaries.
Najarro Sedar and King both earned a spot in the A Final of the 100-yard butterfly, finishing fifth (50.85) and sixth (51.73), respectively. King's 51.49 in the preliminaries also gave him the third-best time for the program all-time. Loper made his way into the B Final in the 200-yard free, placing 15th out of a field of more than 50 in 1:46.53.
On the final day of events, in the preliminaries of the 200-yard backstroke, sophomore Josh Horner set a new personal record in 2:05.05 that moves him into the seventh spot all-time in school history. Najarro Sedar swam a new season-best in the 100-yard free at 47.00, earning him 13th place in the B Final.
Frostburg sent a pair of athletes to the 200-yard breaststroke A Finals, where junior Luka Smith (2:10.25) set a personal record in finishing sixth, while senior PJ Emrich (2:13.85) placed eighth. King continued his impressive showing, earning sixth in the 200-yard fly with a time of 1:57.93 that puts him third on the all-time program list.
One of the top races for FSU came in the final individual event, where Canapp (16:16.37) won the 1,650-yard free, followed by Bond (16:39.37) in fifth place with the program's second-fastest ever time.
