FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State Field Hockey Team dropped their Saturday home game to top-ranked East Stroudsburg 1-0.

On a rainy fall afternoon the first five minutes of play the ball slipped all over the field, as neither team held control of the ball until ESU earned a penalty corner. Off the corner came the first shot of the game, which went wide. Frostburg's defense and sophomore goalie Zoe Barnes were able to keep ESU off the scoreboard for the remainder of the quarter, limiting the visitors to just one shot on goal.

Action in the second quarter were very similar to the first, as the Warriors kept the ball in FSU's defensive end the majority of the fifteen minutes. In the twenty-second minute of the game ESU had four back-to-back shots on goal but were all saved by Barnes, whose marvelous first-half performance kept East Stroudsburg off the board for a halftime score of 0-0.

East Stroudsburg started the third with an immediate foul, awarding Frostburg the ball. FSU was able to get down into their offensive end but ESU defense would steal the ball away without allowing a shot. Taking it back down to the other end, the Warriors had another hard shot on goal, which was once again saved by Barnes. With the rain pouring down, the ball was passed around the middle of the field for some time, before ESU caught a break and got fouled by the Bobcats. East Stroudsburg worked their way up the field, eventually finding the stick of Jady Van Gils who shot the ball past Barnes for a 1-0 lead.

The Warriors got away five shots on goal in the fourth, but were all either saved by Barnes of blocked by FSU defense. The Bobcats were forced to defend for such long stretches of time that they found counter-attack opportunities hard to come by. Any attempts at getting up the field were often thwarted by East Stroudsburg, as they held FSU without a shot in the game, leading to their 1-0 victory. 

With the conclusion of the game Frostburg falls to an overall record of 8-6 while East Stroudsburg moves to 11-2. The Bobcats' next game is at home on Saturday, October 21 at 1 pm versus Bloomsburg. For more information visit frostburgsports.com.
