Men's Basketball Outscored in Second Half, Dropping Home Finale to Senators on Senior Night

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State Men's Basketball team dropped their final home game of the season to Davis & Elkins by a score of 97-82 on Wednesday evening where the team celebrated Senior Night.

Before the game, Frostburg honored their five seniors Jaylin Albury, Cole Harshman, Jaylon Johnson, Sean Brown Jr. and Anthony Carlisle for their careers in a Bobcat uniform.

The Senators got off to a 2-0 lead after winning the jump ball, as Johnson followed it up with a nothing but net three for a 3-2 game. D&E took their two-point lead back after an open bucket. Harshman changed the lead after hitting a three off the assist from Carlisle to bring the score to 6-4. The Senators took a one-point advantage after a successful three-point play for a 7-6 edge. Another knock down three from Johnson gave FSU their first lead of the night 9-7. A free throw and layup for D&E still kept the Senators down one, after Johnson secured another bucket for a 11-10 score. A slam dunk from freshman Malcolm Day advanced FSU's lead by three, 13-10. After a three from D&E, freshman Logan Lewis put up two as the score saw 15-13. Next play down the court, the Senators took back the lead after hitting a three to make it 16-15. Lewis was fouled sending him to the line, putting FSU up one 17-16. The Senators went on a small run scoring of seven points to take a 23-17 lead.

With under ten minutes to play in the first half, Johnson swooshed another three to bring the score to 23-20. After a steal from Albury, junior Robby Williams was sent to the line, adding one to the Bobcats score for a 23-21 game. A missed three resulted with junior Sebastian Gahse tying the game back up at 23 apiece. Points from Williams, Johnson, and Albury were exchanged with D&E to make the score a one-point game with under five minutes to play. After a quiet minute, freshman Zane McCarty hit a fifteen-foot jumper to put FSU back on top 31-30. A response by the Senators switched the score to 32-31. After getting fouled outside the arc, Johnson went three-for-three from the line to put Frostburg in front 34-32. A bucket for D&E and two free throws from Lewis kept FSU on top 36-34.  A miss by D&E ended in a made FSU three by Johnson to increase FSU's lead to five. Both teams put away a few more points, but Lewis' last second layup gave Frostburg the 43-42 lead going into the half.

McCarty swapped layups with the Senators to start the half at 45-44. D&E was able to go up 51-48, as Johnson with a clutch three tied the game again at 51-51. Free throws by the Senators swapped with a three from Harshman advanced the Bobcats lead to 54-53. A jumper from Johnson and a three from D&E, followed by a jumper from Lewis and a jumper from the Senators retied the game back up, this time at 58-58. Five points in a row gave D&E another chance to hold the lead, as the score read 63-58. Albury and Day cut the Senators lead to two, 63-61. D&E, with a three-point play, put the Senators back up by five 66-61, as Williams to Lewis for a three brought the Bobcats within two.

Under the ten-minute mark in the second, teams traded buckets, as Lewis and junior JayShaun Freeman added four to make the score 70-68. The Bobcats tied the score once again after Gahse and Freeman combined for four more Frostburg points. Tied at 74 apiece,  D&E found their rhythm to go on a 16-1 scoring run over the next three and a half minutes for a 90-75 game with 3:19 remaining.  Johnson with five more points and Lewis with two was no match for Davis & Elkins, as the clock ran out with the Senators coming out on top 97-82. 

Johnson led the Bobcats in scoring with 30 points going 6-for-8 from three. Lewis followed with 21 points and five rebounds, as Albury finished with three steals and three assists.

With the conclusion of this game, Frostburg falls to an overall record of 3-24 and a conference record of 2-17, while D&E moves to an overall record of 14-13 and a conference record of 9-10.
