Men's Soccer Falls to Concord on the Road
ATHENS, W. Va. – The Frostburg State Men's Soccer team fell to Concord University on the road Saturday evening by a final score of 3-0.
Frostburg got things rolling offensively in the first five minutes of the game, as junior Laki Psallidas took the first shot on goal of the game for both teams. For the following five minutes, both teams traded possession fighting for a chance at goal. Freshman Tom Leinhos found himself with an offensive opportunity in the twelfth minute of the game, missing wide. After FSU had the first two shots on goal, CU started to fire back, as the Mountain Lions had three shots at goal, one being saved by graduate Joel Assal. With three tries of their own, Concord was able to get their fourth shot to go, putting one in back of the net for a 1-0 lead over 23 minutes in.
The Bobcats quickly kicked off, but turned the ball over as CU took the ball down to Frostburg's defensive half and received a free kick just outside the box. Concord was able to capitalize on the free kick, putting the ball in the high right corner of the goal, putting the Mountain Lions up 2-0 with fifteen minutes left in the half. Frostburg struggled to put together an offensive to end the half, as the score remained 2-0 heading into the break.
The second half got off to a slow start as neither team had any action besides throw-ins in the first five minutes. Psallidas ripped the first shot of the half for either team once more, missing high. Around 10 minutes into the half, Concord connected on their first shot of the second, as the Mountain Lions slipped the ball into the lower left corner for a 3-0 game.
FSU quickly fired back-to-back shots, trying to get on the board, as sophomores Danny Medina and Carlos Quintero Rivas both were stopped by Concord goalie Keegan Grant. The Mountain Lions tried once more at goal, before Psallidas and Medina took back-to-back shots but came up empty. Both teams traded possession and shots as time winded out, as junior Brennan Moore earned himself two saves in goal, as the game finished 3-0 in favor of Concord.
With the conclusion of the game, Frostburg drops to 5-7 on the season, while Concord moves to 4-2-4. The Bobcats come back home to face Notre Dame College (Ohio) on Wednesday, October 11 at 4:30 PM. For more information and updates, please visit frostburgsports.com.
