Men's Soccer Falls to NDC in Final Minutes

The Frostburg State Men's Soccer team fell in the final minutes to Notre Dame College (Ohio), losing by a score of 1-0 at home on Wednesday evening.

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State Men's Soccer team fell in the final minutes to Notre Dame College (Ohio), losing by a score of 1-0 at home on Wednesday evening.

Notre Dame opened offensive play three minutes in, taking the first shot attempt of the game, as graduate Joel Assal was credited with his first save.  After a couple fouls were exchanged by both teams, NDC ripped another try at goal, missing out left.  Frostburg was able to take the ball down to their offensive half, putting their first try of the game together, as junior Randy Ferrin chipped a shot at goal that was saved by the Falcons keeper Danilo Wilson.  NDC put together three more shots at goal, before the Bobcats received a corner kick, but were unable to get anything out of it.

Around the 30 minute mark, junior Alex Retzos fired a shot outside the box, but came up empty.  FSU was able to get a corner kick in the next play but ended up turning the ball over to the Falcons.  After multiple substitutions were made by both teams, freshman Hugo Portillo came off the bench wasting no time to make something happen, attempting to put the ball in the bottom of the goal, but was denied by Wilson.  NDC dominated the last few minutes of the half offensively, taking five shots at goal, with Assal making a save on one, as the score remained 0-0 heading into halftime.

The Falcons continued the pressure to open the second half, firing a quick shot right off the bat, but missed high over top the goal.  Notre Dame proceeded to maintain possession, keeping the ball from FSU, taking four more tries at goal, before Portillo took Frostburg's first shot of the half, trying to sneak the ball past Wilson but was denied once again.

With around nine minutes left in regulation, NDC was able to break the ice, knotting the first goal of the game for either team, taking a 1-0 lead.  The Falcons looked to add to their lead, firing away two more shots at goal, as Assal made another save once more.  Notre Dame was able to keep possession and quiet the Bobcats on offensive for the remainder of the game, as FSU fell by a final score of 1-0.

With the loss, Frostburg falls to 5-8 on the season, while Notre Dame improves to 9-2-2.  The Bobcats will go on the road for their next match to face West Liberty on Sunday, October 15 at 1 PM.  For more information and updates, please visit frostburgsports.com.
