The Frostburg State Men's Soccer team lost their road match to West Virginia Wesleyan by a final score of 5-1 Wednesday evening.

BUCKHANNON, W. Va. – The Frostburg State Men's Soccer team lost their road match to West Virginia Wesleyan by a final score of 5-1 Wednesday evening.

Wesleyan kicked things off on offense, taking the first shot of the game just over eight minutes in. WVWC put together another offensive run, ripping back-to-back tries at goal, putting them both high. Frostburg was able to gain possession, making their way down to their offensive half for their first attempt at goal, as sophomore Carlos Quintero Rivas tried to slip the ball in the bottom right corner, but was denied by Wesleyan goalie Logan Nelson. Both teams traded shots around the 25 minute mark, with junior Alex Retzos earning his first shot of the day, all before WVWC put themselves on the board with back-to-back goals, just seconds apart, for a 2-0 lead.

FSU struggled to contain the hosts, as WVWC continued their offensive spark, knocking another one into the back of the net two minutes later for a 3-0 game. After some substitutions and with just under 11 minutes left to go in the half, Wesleyan tallied another goal to add to their advantage, which stood 4-0 at the break.

Sophomore Kevin Garcia-Torres wasted no time to show some life for Frostburg to start the second half, firing a shot past Nelson off an assist from freshman Brian Gomez, bringing the game to 4-1 two minutes in. Both teams traded possession and missed shots, with Quintero Rivas taking another try at goal, before Wesleyan connected once more for a 5-1 lead.

WVWC continued the dominance on offense, maintaining possession and taking the next three tries at goal. FSU struggled to keep the ball and earn another attempt at offense, as Wesleyan wound out the clock with possession and another shot at goal, as the game ended with a final of 5-1 in favor of WVWC.

With the loss, Frostburg falls to 5-9-1 on the season, while Wesleyan moves to 8-4-2. FSU will return home to face Salem (WV) on Saturday, October 21 at 5 PM where it will be Senior Night. For more information and updates, please visit frostburgsports.com.
