Canapp, 400 Medley Relay Team Set Records for Men's Swimming in Day Two of Championships

CANTON, Ohio – The Frostburg State Men's Swim team ended day two of the GMAC/MEC Championships in second place overall and first among MEC teams after Thursday's races.

Junior Nate Canapp snatched the best finish for Frostburg on the day and an All-MEC Second Team honor, coming in third in the 400-yard IM with a new personal record of 4:05.63, beating his previous record by almost three seconds to remain first all-time in school history. With an overall fourth-best finish, the team of senior Jackson Miller, junior Luka Smith, freshman Dylan King, and sophomore Julian Najarro Sedar set the all-time record in program history with a 3:29.76 finish in the 400-yard medley relay, also the second best in the MEC and an All-MEC Second Team selection.

Najarro Sedar placed 10th in the 100-yard butterfly for third in the MEC and an All-MEC Honorable Mention with a 50.60 finish, less than a second from setting a new personal best. During the preliminaries of the event, King set the third best time in FSU history with a 51.04, while junior Jaden Tipton tied his personal best with an exact time of 52.81 in the C Final.

Following Canapp in the 400-yard IM, senior PJ Emrich placed eighth overall, earning All-MEC Honorable Mention recognition with a 4:16.29, while his 4:15.53 during the preliminaries set the third-best time in program history. Smith took 11th place with a 4:17.50 swim for the fifth best time in Bobcat history, while freshman Jack Bond kept the top-10 marks going, setting the sixth best time in program history with a 4:19.91 finish.

Senior Noah Loper placed seventh overall in the 200-yard freestyle with a 1:44.90 time, as four Bobcats secured top-10 program records in the event. Freshman Abe Bias now sits at fifth all-time in the with an 11th place finish of 1:45.21, while Tipton came in right behind him in 12th place with a time of 1:45.47, setting a new personal record to remain seventh all-time. Sophomore Alex Whitton is now eighth all-time with a 1:46.12 swim for 14th place, and sophomore Josh Horner now holds the ninth-best time in school history with a 15th place finish of 1:46.88.
