Men's Swimming Caps Day One of Championships Second Overall With Relay Record
CANTON, Ohio – The Frostburg State Men's Swim team ended day one of the GMAC/MEC Championships in second place overall and first among MEC teams after Wednesday's races.
Kicking off the meet in the 200-yard medley relay, the team of seniors Jackson Miller and PJ Emrich and freshmen Dylan King and Abe Bias placed fifth overall, earning Honorable Mention All-MEC honors while setting the second-fastest time in program history at 1:36.18.
Junior Nate Canapp (9:32.40) and freshman Jack Bond (9:52.60) put up the first and second-best times not just in the MEC, but also in school history, while earning third and fifth place, respectively, in the 1,000-yard freestyle. Senior Justin Geiszler had a top-10 finish in eighth overall, with his 10:03.86 a full 30 seconds faster than his previous season-best and good enough for third in program history, while sophomore Alex Whitton (10:11.82) also smashed his season high and improved his fifth all-time status.
Miller earned Honorable Mention All-MEC in the 200-yard IM at 1:56.29 for seventh overall, while King finished just behind him in eighth, as his 1:57.21 also set the fourth-fastest time in school history. Emrich (1:57.52) and junior Luka Smith (1:59.19) both hit new personal bests for fifth and ninth place all-time, respectively.
In the 50-yard free, sophomore Julian Najarro Sedar was one of two MEC performers to reach the A final, placing seventh overall at 20.92, just .01 seconds off his program record time. During the C final, freshman Tory Reynolds put his name into the record books with a 21.53 that places him seventh in FSU history.
The Bobcats ended day one on a high note, as the 200-yard free relay team of Najarro Sedar, seniors Noah Loper and Andy Creelman, and Reynolds swam a 1:24.75 for second overall, first among MEC teams, and breaking the school record for a third-straight season.
