Men's Swimming Heads Into Final Day of Championships Second Overall, First in MEC
CANTON, Ohio – The Frostburg State Men's Swim team ended day three of the GMAC/MEC Championships in second place overall and first among MEC teams after Friday's races.
In the first final of the day, junior Nate Canapp took another First Team All-MEC honor with a 4:37.69 in the 500-yard freestyle, breaking his program record while finishing third overall. Senior Noah Loper placed eighth in making the A final, while freshman Jack Bond (4:46.86) put himself fourth in program history in winning the B final at ninth overall.
Senior Jackson Miller and sophomore Josh Horner finished with the exact same time in the 100-yard backstroke at 53.79, as the latter set a new personal best as the fourth-fastest in school history. Joining him on the top-10 list was sophomore Julian Najarro Sedar, who swam a 54.73 for No. 5 all-time.
The 100-yard breaststroke featured a pair of personal bests, with junior Luka Smith earning a 58.48 during the preliminaries as the second-fastest program time, while junior Tave Chanthavong came in at 1:00.21 for eighth-best all-time.
The final individual swim had three Bobcats etch their name into the record books during the 200-yard butterfly. Freshman Dylan King (1:56.48) and senior PJ Emrich (1:57.26) placed seventh and eighth overall and second and third among MEC swimmers, respectively. The former had a 1:56.25 during the preliminary round as the second-best mark in program history, while the latter's time was a personal high and third all-time. Also in the prelims, senior Justin Geiszler swam a 2:02.22 to put himself seventh with a new PR.
Ending the day in the 800-yard free relay, the team of senior Noah Loper, freshman Abe Bias, Bond, and Canapp posted the second-fastest time in FSU history at 7:02.93, earning Second Team All-MEC honors in fourth place overall.
