Men's Track & Field Posts 11 Victories at Bob Lewis Classic

The Frostburg State Men's Track & Field team hosted the annual Bob Lewis Classic on Friday, putting up several top marks despite some wintry weather conditions.

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State Men's Track & Field team hosted the annual Bob Lewis Classic on Friday, putting up several top marks despite some wintry weather conditions.
 
In total, FSU picked up 11 victories during the meet, including both relays on the track. The 4x100 meter team of freshmen Nate Shields, Logan Haines, Ka'Von Turner, and senior Nate Mesy turned in a season-best time of 41.82 in their win, while Turner, Haines, and Mesy joined freshman Jack Hynes in winning the 4x400 in 3:29.87. Just behind them in the event was junior Paul James III, sophomore Justin Dowell, and freshmen Isayah Stewart and Brendan Kline in 3:31.42 to earn second.
 
Turner went on to win the 100 meters at 10.98, while Mesy put up a 50:39 in winning the 400m and Hynes won the 800m in 1:59.82, with Stewart close behind in third with a season-best 2:00.75. Rounding out the Bobcats' success in the sprints, junior Marquise Burks won the 110-meter hurdles at 15.31, with sophomore Mason Reed coming third in 16.04 and freshman RJ Eubanks setting a personal best 17.15 in fifth place, while Haines would place third in the 200m at 22.82.
 
In the distance events, senior Justus LePrevost (32:15.96) led the Frostburg charge in the 10k, the first among four Bobcats to cross the line one after the other, followed by junior Austin Comeaux (32:31.09), sophomore Brandon Stein (34:21.63), and freshman Matthew Brennan (37:03.13). Another contingent of FSU athletes placed the same in the 1,500 meters, with freshman Gage Osborne (4:19.28) winning and classmates Jaxon Jones (4:20.24), Brendan Kline (4:27.49), and Ray Gibson (4:27.60) placing second through fourth, respectively. In earning the final distance victory, freshman Nathan Hillhouse competed in his first collegiate steeplechase, winning in 11:48.99.
 
The field events produced more top placements for FSU, with Shields winning the long jump at 6.60m and junior Tom McCoy victorious in the pole vault at 4.85m. Burks (1.80m) and Reed (1.75m) placed second and third, respectively, in the high jump, while senior Rondell Carlton (12.70m) and sophomore Bryson Harvey (11.37m) finished the same in the triple jump, the latter setting a new personal record.
 
As the meet finished in the throws area, several Bobcats set new personal marks and had a top-three performer in every event. Redshirt freshman Ire Maboudou had a pair of third places, setting new bests in the hammer (41.99m) and the shot put (13.38m). Freshman Dalton Kasekamp took third in the discus with a 39.03 PR, also putting up a new high in the hammer at 31.16m. Sophomore Scott Haste earned the final third-place mark with a 41.59 personal record in the Javelin, where Reed also threw his furthest-ever 31.64m, as the former also put up a 33.63m in the discus for a personal best. Redshirt sophomore Ben Treat also had himself a couple of PR's, with a 13.12m in the shot good enough for fourth place, while tossing a 30.97m in the discus.
 
The team will next travel to Messiah for an invitational lasting from Thursday, April 11 through Saturday, April 13. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
