Rayshawn Walker Named Men's and Women's Track & Field Head Coach
FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State Athletic Department has announced Rayshawn Walker as its next Men's and Women's Track & Field Head Coach.
Walker comes to FSU having most recently served as the Head Track & Field and Cross Country Coach at Division II William Jewell College since 2022. He will be the second head coach since FSU moved to the Division II level, as the program has just had its first-ever DII national qualifier and All-American in Tom McCoy.
"I am honored to be the next Head Track & Field Coach at Frostburg State University", said Walker. "I am very excited to guide this incredible group of student athletes who want to continue the rich tradition of success and excel at a high level both in the MEC and the NCAA Championships. I would like to thank Athletic Director Troy Dell, Associate Athletic Director Eric Seifarth, and the entire hiring committee for this opportunity. I look forward to leading and inspiring our student athletes to achieve their highest potential, both on and off the track, while contributing to the rich tradition of athletic excellence at Frostburg State University."
While at WJC, Walker initially served as an assistant coach beginning in 2019 before assuming the head coaching role in 2022. During his tenure, 30 athletes achieved all-conference honors at the GLVC Championships, with seven individual champions and five national qualifiers. Additionally, 17 new program records were set across the men's and women's teams.
Prior to William Jewell, Walker was the Head Cross Country Coach and Assistant Track & Field Coach at Division I Arkansas-Little Rock, where he coached 24 Sun Belt all-conference athletes and eight conference champions. He began his coaching career as an Assistant Track & Field and Cross Country Coach at Division I Abilene Christian from 2013-16.
Walker graduated with his Bachelor's degree in Psychology at former Mountain East Conference member Notre Dame College in 2013. While at NDC, he was an NAIA national qualifier in the 800m and the 4x800m relay. He went on to earn his Master's degree in Kinesiology, Sports Recreation, and Management from Hardin-Simmons University in 2016.
