Rippeon Dominates as Women's Swimming Defeats Senators on the Road
ELKINS, W. Va. – The Frostburg State Women's Swimming team defeated Davis & Elkins 164-93 on the road Saturday afternoon.
Freshman Jenna Handwerger picked up the first Bobcat win of the day in the 1000-yard free at 11:10.03, taking first by over 90 seconds. In the next event, sophomore Genna Rippeon began her outstanding meet with a victory in the 200 free (1:58.54), later going on to take first in the 500 free (5:19.24), just ahead of Handwerger (5:19.99), and the 200 IM (2:16.87), where classmate Taylor Emrich was second in 2:22.03.
Emrich was victorious in the 200 back (2:15.82), forming a 1-2 punch with sophomore Kay Buhrman (2:18.79). One of FSU's top events on the day came in the 100 back, where senior Gaby Betancourt (1:02.83) led a 1-2-3 finish with junior Jayme Meadows (1:03.49) and Emrich (1:03.67) close behind. Meadows would also go on to win the 50 free (25.70), followed by junior Reagan Chase taking the 100 free (57.50).
The Bobcats also took first and second in the 200 fly in a friendly battle between juniors Alexis Ramsey (2:19.79) and Morgan Greenlee (2:19.95). Rounding out the meet, the team of Rippeon, Buhrman, Meadows, and junior Mackenzie Payne took first in the 200 free relay at 1:43.10, as Meadows flipped an early deficit in the last leg to win by 0.12 seconds.
With the win, Frostburg improves to 3-0 on the year, while Davis & Elkins drops to 0-1. The Bobcats return home to face Fairmont State on Friday, October 24 at 5 p.m. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
