Seven Straight Victories Give Women's Wrestling Home Opening Win Over Bears
FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State Women's Wrestling team earned a comfortable 31-13 victory over Ursinus in their 2024 home opener.
After a forfeit at 103 lbs gave FSU an early lead, the Bears came right back with a pair of pinfall wins at 110 and 117 to take a 10-5 advantage. The Bobcats got on the board with back-to-back decision wins, as sophomores Jada Fowler (10-2) and Brianna Holcomb (6-2) combined to give Frostburg six combined points, with a pair going to UC.
Junior Solana Mottola and senior Shani Tyson kept the pressure on with back-to-back 10-0 tech fall victories, pushing the score up to 19-12. In a turning point of the match, junior Samira Stephens faced a late deficit at 160 lbs, but was able to secure a couple takedowns with just seconds remaining to earn a 9-3 decision.
Closing out the meet, sophomore Maria Hiles secured a first round pin while classmate Jocelyn Cacek won a commanding 10-0 tech fall to seal the 31-13 final. In a 138 lb exhibition match, freshman Amber Hunter-Snyder made it eight consecutive Bobcat wins on the day.
With the win, Frostburg improves to 8-1 on the year, while Ursinus falls to 3-1. FSU is back in action on Wednesday, December 4, as they will host Marymount at 7 p.m. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
