Women's Soccer Celebrates Senior Day in Goalless Draw with Point Park
FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg Women's Soccer Team battled against Point Park on a chilly Saturday afternoon, drawing in a 0-0 tie.
Prior to the match, FSU celebrated its seven seniors in Carly Gillette, Jayme Sooy, Morgan Mrizek, Hannah Clagett, Skylar Ehart, Mary Greco, and Amanda Hawbecker, by welcoming them and their families onto the field to commemorate each player's Bobcat career.
The first shot of the game came from the Pioneers over eight minutes in, which went out left. Frostburg followed that by peppering PPU's goal with multiple shots of their own throughout the remainder of the half, with the first chance coming from Gillette's shot missing wide out to the left. Eight minutes later, she followed with another shot, this one getting tipped away by goalkeeper Nicole Kuchinski. Shortly, after FSU managed three more chances within an eight-minute period, as sophomore Madison Hinton had a header cleared off the line from a corner, while Gillette fired right at Kuchinski. Hinton would then have a great chance on a free kick 20 yards from goal, but her curled shot went just wide of the post. Point Park would have their lone effort of the half on target take two bounces before easily being gathered by sophomore Kayla Doty. With three minutes until the break, sophomore Ana Davis had a shot from distance go too close to Kuchinski as the half ended scoreless.
The second half started off quickly for the Bobcats as they generated two chances within the first five minutes, as Clagett kicked the ball directly into the chest of Kuchinski, and Hawbecker fired one that was blocked. Frostburg's next shot came ten minutes later, by Hinton and Mrizek, respectively, both of which missed to the left of the goal. Gillette kept her shooting boots on with two more efforts that missed the target. FSU had trouble getting their shots towards goal, as PPU's defense held firm with a pair of blocks to close things out with the 0-0 draw.
FSU held a 20-3 advantage in shots, with five of those being on goal, compared to the Pioneers' one.
The draw moves the Bobcats' record to 8-4-3, while Point Park is now 6-6-2 on the year. Frostburg is back at home on Wednesday, October 29, to face Wheeling at 7:30 p.m. For more information, please visit frostburgsports.com.
