Women's Lacrosse Drops First Road Contest of Season

The Frostburg State Women's Lacrosse team fell on the road to the Shippensburg Raiders 17-10 on Saturday afternoon.

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Frostburg State Women's Lacrosse team fell on the road to the Shippensburg Raiders 17-10 on Saturday afternoon.

FSU wasted no time getting on the board, as graduate Camden DeMaio would earn a free position less than a minute in and find the back of the net for the early 1-0 lead. Both teams traded turnovers before the Raiders would even things up at 1-1. Shippensburg would score twice more to go ahead 3-1, before junior Emily Lamoreaux found junior Neila Haney for the Bobcats second goal. The second half of the first period would be the undoing for Frostburg, with SU scoring six goals to lead 9-2 at the end of the quarter.

The Raiders carried the momentum from the first over over to the second, knotting two straight goals before DeMaio would score on a second free position to make the game 11-3.  FSU closed out the half with two goals, as Haney would find her second goal with just under four minutes on the clock. DeMaio then found senior Julia Badolato to give Frostburg a goal in the final seconds of the half, as the Bobcats went into the halftime break trailing 12-5.

Frostburg succeeded off a man-up opportunity to start the third, as Haney would score her third of the game off an assist from senior Natalie Williams. Lamoreaux then scored on a free position to cut the lead to 14-7. SU responded with two goals in the quarter to make the game 16-7 going into the fourth.

The fourth would go to FSU, as the Bobcats outscored the Raiders 3-1, but it wasn't quite enough to overcome their deficit. DeMaio scored again for the Bobcats early in the fourth, as Haney would then pick up an assist on a goal from senior Brittyn Leonard to bring the game to 16-9.  DeMaio's final goal of the day would get the Bobcats into double digits, as Shippensburg added a late goal to make the final score 17-10.

FSU had five different players score, with DeMaio having four goals and Haney seeing three. Senior Nicole Gray recorded one save, before giving way to senior Grace Dickey, who played the final three quarters finishing with 13 saves.

With the loss, Frostburg falls to 3-3 on the season, while Shippensburg improves to 4-1. The Bobcats will again be on the road when they travel to play Shepherd on Wednesday, March 12 at 2 PM. For more information visit frostburgsports.com.
