Women's Rugby Sets Record Margin of Victory in Dominant Win Over Wasps
EMORY, Va. - The Frostburg State Women's Rugby team put on a commanding performance against Emory & Henry, securing a decisive 57-0 victory on the road Saturday.
It didn't take FSU very long to get the scoring started early, with sophomore Ellis Lysse crossing the try line in the third minute, though the Bobcats narrowly missed the conversion. After some back-and-forth possession, sophomore Scout Spadoni added another try in the 21st minute, but again the conversion was missed, leaving Frostburg ahead 10-0.
Sophomore Natalie Allen found her stride soon after, scoring a try in the 28th minute and making a successful conversion herself for a 17-point advantage. Lysse scored again just two minutes later, with Allen converting to bring the halftime score to a commanding 24-0.
After the break, Frostburg wasted no time adding to their lead, with junior Abby Stapleton and freshman Izzy Sage netting back-to-back tries within the first five minutes, as Allen's conversion on the latter pushed the score to 36-0.
Junior LJ Jordan added her name onto the score sheet seven minutes later before Spadoni tacked on another try in the 68th minute, followed by Allen's conversion, bringing the tally to 50-0. The final points came from a penalty try awarded to Jordan five minutes from full time, capping off a dominant 57-0 final score.
Allen was FSU's leading scorer on the day, scoring a try herself and successfully converting five times, while Lysse and Spadoni each scored two tries. It was Frostburg's second-highest scoring total since starting the program three seasons ago and the largest margin of victory for the team.
The Bobcats will return to action on Saturday, September 6 as they travel to La Salle for a 1 p.m. contest. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
