Osborne Wins Mile to Lead Men's Track & Field at Season Opener
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Frostburg State Men's Track & Field team opened their season at the Youngstown State Icebreaker on Friday, facing off against competition from all three NCAA divisions.
Junior Gage Osborne led the Bobcats by winning the mile at 4:18.60, placing him fifth all-time in program history, while also placing eighth in the 3K (9:04.67), just behind classmate Ray Gibson in sixth (9:02.45), while senior Brandon Stein (9:28.04) joined them in setting PR's.
Also in the mile, classmate Jaxon Jones set a new PR at 4:29.11 before doing the same in the 800m at 1:59.21. In the latter event, junior Jack Hynes led the way in eighth place at 1:56.76, where senior Justin Dowell (2:03.14) and junior Nathan Hillhouse (2:11.23) both also set personal bests. Rounding out the distance events, Stein (16:14.32) and sophomore Ethan McKee (17:20.72) both set career-highs in the 5K.
Sophomore Desaun Jeffrey put up a fantastic 8.64 in the 60m hurdles, setting a PR while putting himself sixth in the program record books. During the field events, freshman Awoenam Nutakor took fourth overall in the high jump (1.79m) while classmate Jason Pantaleon came seventh in the long jump (6.75m) and sophomore Blake Stevens set a new personal record in the triple jump (13.06m). Sophomore Adeeb Pender joined the personal best group with a 3.90m in the pole vault.
In the throws, redshirt junior Ire Maboudou led the team in seventh during the weight throw, setting a new PR and the sixth-farthest throw in program history at 15.54m. Also in the event, juniors Tyler McGraw (13.93m) and Dalton Kasekamp (13.38m) also had career bests, as did the former (13.03m) and sophomore Andrew Highland (12.83m) in the shot put.
FSU rounded out the meet with the team of Hynes, Dowell, sophomore Mason Worley, and freshman Felix Annan placing eighth in the 4x400m relay at 3:27.82.
Frostburg will now have a long layoff until returning to Youngstown on Friday, January 16 at the YSU Invitational. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
