Badolato, DeMaio Carry Women's Lacrosse Past D&E for Fourth Consecutive Conference Win

The Frostburg State Women's Lacrosse team continued to soar through the MEC on Thursday evening, picking up their fourth consecutive conference win with a 25-4 victory over Davis & Elkins.

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State Women's Lacrosse team continued to soar through the MEC on Thursday evening, picking up their fourth consecutive conference win with a 25-4 victory over Davis & Elkins.

Davis & Elkins quickly got to work, taking advantage of the draw control and setting up their offense for the first strike of the game not even 30 seconds in.  Frostburg took that to heart, as junior Neila Haney earned the next draw control and weaved her way down field and into the arc for a tie game just 10 seconds later.  The Bobcats' defense, led by junior Jessie Bare, coughed up a turnover from D&E on their next possession, resulting in a goal from graduate Camden DeMaio on the other end for a 2-1 FSU advantage.  The Bobcats caused back-to-back turnovers from the Senators with senior Megan Keller and junior Izzy Kelly picking up a CT each, as junior Daniella Boss fed senior Julia Badolato for a score and a 3-1 game.  Frostburg started to pour it on, seeing two more scores in the next minute, with senior Kerri Hayes and Badolato slicing one home.  Haney knotted another one for FSU over four minutes later, as Keller received another caused turnover and senior Grace Dickey racked up a save in goal.  Davis & Elkins responded with a duo of goals to cut their deficit in half, before DeMaio fired one inside off a free position attempt for a 7-3 contest after one.

Junior Syndey Stone put in the first tally of the second, as DeMaio added another just around two minutes later.  FSU continued their momentum, stuffing the Senators with turnovers to keep possession in the sticks of the Bobcats.  Keller dished to Badolato for her third of the game and a 10-3 lead, as Dickey kept the score the same with a tough save off a free position.  FSU quickly worked the ball to the other end, as Haney found freshman Kamryn Lee inside for a solid strike and an 11-3 game.  Badolato kept her tare going, slotting home the next two for Frostburg, with DeMaio being given an assist on the second.  D&E's next shot was wide, before DeMaio worked on the defensive end to receive a caused turnover, and Dickey was given another save.  DeMaio was awarded once again in FSU's offensive half, sending in the final shot of the half off another free position setup for a 14-3 score at the break.

DeMaio kept the same energy going to start the third, seeing the first two scores of the quarter to increase the Bobcat's lead to 16-3 in the first two minutes.  Badolato and junior Emily Lamoreaux quickly tacked on a goal each as time went on, as Davis & Elkins was unable to get off a shot.  Boss caused a turnover on the other end, setting up FSU with the ball once again and awarding herself with a goal off a feed from Lamoreaux.  Boss repeated the same scenario around two minutes later, getting a CT and finding herself with a goal, this time off a pass from Haney for a 20-3 score read.  Senior Nicole Gray made her way into goal around the five-minute mark but had nothing to worry about as DeMaio set up Stone for another try, adding another one to Frostburg's total.  Lee hustled for a caused turnover to round out the quarter with FSU in control 21-3.

Gray saw her first save in goal to begin play in the fourth, as Boss found senior Brittyn Leonard for a strike.  Davis & Elkins got one by in response to get the game to 22-4, as both teams swapped turnovers before Leonard tallied another one for FSU.  The Bobcat defense stood in the way of the next attempt at goal from the Senators, as Stone capitalized on the other end with a score off a pass from sophomore Gianna Leonardi.  D&E took the next three rips at goal as time winded down, before Hayes slotted one more home to sit the final score at 25-4.

Badolato and DeMaio led Frostburg with six goals each, as DeMaio dished out a team-high three assists for a team-high nine points, and Badolato hit her 100 career goals mark.  Stone was next with a hat-trick, while four Bobcats recorded a pair of goals each.  Bare and Dickey led the way in ground balls with three each, while Bare, Boss, and Keller all saw a pair of CT's.  Dickey finished with five saves on the day, reaching 100 career saves, while Gray recorded one.

With the win, Frostburg improves to 7-6 on the season, while Davis & Elkins drops to 5-8.  The Bobcats are on the road next as they face West Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday, April 9 at 5 PM.  For more information and updates, please visit frostburgsports.com.
