FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State Men's Soccer pulled away in the first half with a 2-0 win against Wheeling for their final home match of the 2025 season. 

The Cardinals gained the upper hand over the Bobcats early, taking the first three shots of the game, two of which were saved by sophomore goalkeeper Jan Foret and one of which was missed right. FSU was able to generate their first chance 18 minutes into the game, though it seemed it was worth the wait, as senior Kevin Garcia-Torres threaded a ball down the right wing to sophomore Andrew Denard, who crossed to the back post for classmate Mason Salvadge to fire home, giving Frostburg a 1-0 lead. With the cushion of an early lead, the Bobcats had no trouble in gaining two more chances just three minutes after the goal, as junior Anthony Diaz had his attempt blocked and freshman Inzaghi Harmon fired one well above the net. 

Up 2-0, Frostburg came out of the break looking for more, with Salvadge firing one that Marquez dove to save just over a minute in. Two more shots came within the first ten minutes, one by Salvadge again that was put over the bar, while sophomore Dom Good's shot was deflected by a Cardinal defender. After earning a free kick just over 20 yards from goal, WU's Elie Simon took a shot that ricocheted off the left goalpost, then the follow-up effort was put over the bar. With 25 minutes to go, Salvadge thought he had put home his second, sending the ball curving towards the far post, but it was tipped away by Marquez. Six minutes later, Wheeling had another chance that was saved by Foret, who looked to keep his clean sheet intact.

Heading into the final 10 minutes, the Cardinals had one of their best opportunities to score as a free kick was met at the back post, but Foret tipped it onto the bar, and it landed back in the path of WU's attack, however the shot missed well above the goal. Kennedy had another opportunity as he headed a ball off a free kick just left of the goal, then Less than a minute later, Harmon had his second chance of the night, which barely tipped off the fingers of Marquez. WU got the final shot of the game that missed just high of the net, ending the match with FSU coming away with the 2-0 win.

Both Wheeling and Frostburg were completely equal shot-wise with 11 apiece total and five being on target.

With the win, FSU improves to 6-8-2 while the Cardinals drop to 1-13-1. On Sunday, November 2, the Bobcats hit the road to play West Virginia Wesleyan at 3:30 PM for their final regular-season match. For more information, please visit frostburgsports.com.
