Season High Score Not Enough in Acrobatics & Tumbling Loss to LIU
FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State Acrobatics & Tumbling team lost at home to Long Island 250.075-243.125 on Friday evening.
FSU took a quick advantage, winning three of the four heats in the Compulsory Event, with LIU taking the Toss heat. The teams tied for the highest score at 9.70, with the Bobcats reaching theirs in the Pyramid heat, going with a 9.35-9.0 decision in the Acro heat and an 8.35-8.15 victory in the Tumbling heat to lead 36.95-36.40.
The Sharks came right back to take two of three Acro Event heats, with their highest score of 9.75 coming in the 5-Element, while Frostburg narrowly took the 6-Element 9.10-9.05. Long Island continued their momentum into the Pyramid Event, sweeping all three heats en route to a 93.50-92.75 halftime advantage. Both teams had their highest mark in the Open heat, with the visitors taking in 9.70-9.65.
Coming out in the second half to the Toss Event, FSU began the stronger of the sides in the 450 Salto, winning 8.85-7.75. LIU recovered to take the next two heats, though it wouldn't be enough to prevent the Bobcats winning the event 25.80-25.15. In the Tumbling Event, the Sharks took advantage of several higher start values, taking each of the synchronized passes and the Aerial pass on their way to a 49.325-47.525 event win. Frostburg had impressive performances in each of the individual passes, with junior Marion Pastore winning the 6-Element 8.325-8.250 and senior Nia Ivanov taking the Open pass 9.15-9.05.
As Long Island held a nearly two-point lead heading into the Team event, they gave themselves enough breathing room with an 82.10, surpassing FSU's 77.05 for the 250.075-243.125 final.
With the loss, Frostburg falls to 3-3 on the year, while LIU improves to 2-4. The Bobcats next head on the road to face Gannon on Saturday, March 22 at 2 p.m. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
