Love Named ECC Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Year, Six Earn All-ECC Honors
WEST BABYLON. N.Y. – Frostburg State Men's Lacrosse graduate Bubba Love was selected as the ECC Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Year, announced on Tuesday by the league office, while six other players received ECC All-Conference honors.
Love, being named All-ECC First Team as well, sits at second on the team and fourth in the ECC with goals scored with 43 on the season, while leading Frostburg with 35 assists and 78 points, both tying for the best in the conference, while also setting the all-time career points record for FSU. Love tallied a total of 128 shots, tied for third most in the ECC, for a shooting percentage of .336%, while scooping up 32 ground balls as well.
Graduate Chase Buckwalter was named to the All-ECC First Team, leading the Bobcats with 45 goals so far on the season, tied for second most overall in the conference. Buckwalter also dished out 16 assists, bringing him to 61 total points for sixth best in the ECC, while shooting .385% off of 117 shots and being credited with 22 ground balls. On the defensive side, senior Luke McCullough and junior Seamus Kearney also earned spots on the All-ECC First Team, leading FSU's defense, with the former causing 15 turnovers and picking up 37 ground balls, and the latter leading the team with 28 caused turnovers and earning 41 ground balls.
Senior Austin Sipes and graduate Owen McCallum were both named to the All-ECC Second Team, with the former putting up 41 points and 31 assists for 72 points, and the latter going for 36 goals and 14 assists for 50 points. Sipes holds the third most points in the conference, along with fourth most assists and fifth most goals on 113 shots and a .363 shooting percentage, while McCallum is tied for sixth most goals on 97 shots and a .371 shooting percentage. Junior Alex Walstrum also received Second Team All-ECC honors, taking most of the face-offs for the Bobcats this year, going 107-for-160 in the X, and scooping a team-high 67 ground balls.
