Women's Basketball Announces Schedule for 2023-24 Season
FROSTBURG, Md. - The Frostburg State Women's Basketball team has announced their regular season schedule for the upcoming 2023-24 season.
Coming off a historic season in 2022-23 that marked the first-ever appearance for the program in the MEC Women's Basketball Tournament and advancing to the quarterfinals, second year Head Coach Jenna Eckleberry looks to push the squad to new heights. FSU will begin their season with an exciting exhibition matchup on the road at Division I Liberty University on November 6.
Following exhibition play, the out-of-conference slate features the Jim Crawley Conference Challenge once again on campus, as the Bobcats honor legendary Coach Crawley. The field this season features a new opponent for FSU in CIAA side Winston-Salem State making the trip from North Carolina, where the Rams finished 16-9 a season ago. Familiar face Salem (WV) joins the field this season, a team which FSU will look to break a two game losing skid against in the all-time program series. Pitt-Johnstown of the PSAC, a feature in the past couple of seasons, rounds out the four team field.
FSU will once again see PSAC opponents in Lock Haven and Seton Hill this season, while two new matchups against Bowie State and District of Columbia round out the non-conference slate. The first meeting between the UDC Firebirds will come on December 15 and FSU's in-state foe Bowie State comes to Bobcat Arena on New Years Eve, December 31.
Conference play features a slew of challenging opponents for the Bobcats, beginning with Atlantic region one seed and National Semifinalist Glenville State headlining the group. GSU's 33-3 regular season saw the Pioneers swep the regular season meeting against the Bobcats, plus defeating FSU in the quarterfinals of the MEC Tournament. FSU hosts GSU on December 9 and visits the Waco Center on January 31 in a new eara for Glenville, with former head coach Kim Stephens now at the helm of Marshall. The fifth seed in the region a season ago in West Virginia State, coming off a 22-7 campaign, will matchup with the Bobcats on the road on December 2 and at home on February 7. Rounding out the returning NCAA Tournament appearance matchups is the seventh seeded Charleston Golden Eagles who advanced to the regional semifinals last year after a 24-9 season. FSU will tangle with UC on November 29 at home and February 10 on the road.
The full conference slate of home games features January 13 vs Wheeling, January 17 against Notre Dame College, January 24 vs West Virginia Wesleyan, February 3 vs Concord, February 14 vs West Liberty, February 24 vs Alderson Broaddus and February 28 vs Davis & Elkins. Wednesday games will begin at 5:30 and Saturday games at 2:00 or unless a change is noted. As in previous years, Frostburg will play each Mountain East team twice in a home-and-away series throughout the season.
