The Frostburg State Women's Lacrosse team defeated Charleston (WV) on Senior Day in an MEC matchup that secured Frostburg their second-straight conference regular season title, taking down the Golden Eagles by a score of 19-8.

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State Women's Lacrosse team defeated Charleston (WV) on Senior Day in an MEC matchup that secured Frostburg their second-straight conference regular season title, taking down the Golden Eagles by a score of 19-8.

Prior to the game, Frostburg recognized seniors McKenna Shay, Camden DeMaio, Anna Kearney and Whitney Crosby for their career in a Bobcat jersey.

The first draw control of the game was won by junior Megan Keller, as a shot by junior Kerri Hayes was saved but dropped, resulting in Kearney scooping up the ball and feeding graduate Maura O'Neill for the first score of the game. UC won the next possession, but a caused turnover by O'Neill found the ball in the stick of sophomore Emily Lamoreaux for a successful clear. FSU moved the ball around until sophomore Jessie Bare caught sophomore Neila Haney wide open for her first goal of the game and a 2-0 lead. Around the six-minute mark, Charleston, given a yellow card, put Frostburg on a man-up opportunity, as Haney faked a shot and passed to wide open junior Julia Badolato for a 3-0 Bobcat edge. Moments later, after O'Neill won a draw control, sophomore Daniella Boss put the fourth goal on the board, as just before the quarter ended, FSU was a player-up allowing Boss to sneak another past the UC goalie for a five-goal lead.

The penalty on the Golden Eagles carried over to quarter two, as Frostburg acquired the ball resulting in a goal by DeMaio to increase the game to 6-0. Nearly seconds later, Haney won the draw, with DeMaio scooping up the ground ball and scoring a solo goal to tack on another. Charleston was called for another penalty, as the Bobcats took advantage, issuing a goal for graduate Lily Stephens and an eight goal lead for FSU. Haney scored back-to-back goals to see the score at 10-0, before UC scored their first two goals of the game in the seventh minute of the second quarter. Frostburg answered back with two goals of their own by DeMaio and Lamoreaux to go into halftime up by ten, 12-2.

The first five-minutes of the third quarter were scoreless for both teams as on, yet again, a player advantage for FSU, Kearney scored the 13th goal of the game for the Bobcats. The Golden Eagles put up four consecutive goals to cut the game to 13-6.  O'Neill ended UC's run with a solo goal, but Charleston quickly responded to bring the score to 14-7. Just before the quarter was over, DeMaio assisted Haney as she sent one to the back of the net for a 15- 7FSU lead heading into the fourth.

Stephens assisted Badolato just 18 seconds into the fourth quarter, tallying another goal for Frostburg.  The next for shots for UC were denied, as DeMaio was denied as well down at the other end, with both teams trading shots over the next four minutes.  Badolato got another shot to go in, off a dish from Hayes, to push FSU's lead to 17-7.  A few minutes later, Hayes ended up with another assist, dishing the ball to Lamoreaux for another Bobcat score with 7:08 remaining in regulation.  Each team took another shot, before both added to their score, with O'Neill slicing one in the back of the net as time expired, as FSU came out victorious with a final of 19-8.

Haney finished with four goals and three assists, followed by DeMaio with four goals and two assists. Badolato came up next with three goals, as O'Neill, Lamoreaux, and Boss all had two, and Stephens and Kearney each scored one. Junior Nicole Gray ended with four saves in goal while Crosby had three.

With the conclusion of today's game, Frostburg moves to an overall record of 10-5 and a conference record of 7-0, while Charleston (WV) falls to an overall record of 9-7 and a conference record of 6-2. FSU is back in action on Saturday, April 27 as they take on D&E in their last regular season game with a start time of 2 PM in Elkins, WV. For more information visit frostburgsports.com.
