Women's Swimming Ends Day One of GMAC/MEC Championships Third Overall
CANTON, Ohio – The Frostburg State Women's Swim team ended day one of the GMAC/MEC Championships in third place overall and first among MEC teams after Wednesday's races.
FSU began the meet by immediately setting a new program record in the 200-yard medley relay, as the team of sophomore Gabriela Betancourt, juniors Natasha Paciello and Kendall Hooper, and freshman Gabriella Douglas swam a 1:49.41, taking third overall in the meet and first among MEC teams.
In the first individual final of the day, junior Lydia Nebiolo smashed her all-time record for the 1,000-yard freestyle, placing second overall at 10:26.94 as the top MEC performer and besting her previous mark by over 20 seconds. Earning a top-10 spot in ninth place, junior Tiernan Taggart set a new personal record and improved her second-fastest all-time mark in 10:58.87.
Senior Liz Perry (24.53) captured her third-straight First Team All-MEC 50-yard free performance, placing seventh overall as the only swimmer from the conference to reach the A final. In the B final, Douglas put up the third-fastest time in program history at 24.85, while junior Amaya Burke improved her personal record and No. 7-best time of 25.18.
Freshman Jayme Meadows earned Second Team All-MEC honors in the 200 IM, with her 2:16.08 good enough for fourth in school history, while Paciello set the eighth-fastest time at 2:18.44.
Rounding out the first day of events, the 200-yard free relay team of Burke, Douglas, Perry, and freshman Rachel Rickabaugh set yet another program record, securing third overall and tops in the MEC in 1:39.20.
