Frostburg State junior Nate Canapp was named the 2023-24 Mountain East Conference Swimmer of the Year on Wednesday afternoon, while Head Coach Matt Brinton took home both the Men's and Women's Coach of the Year, both receiving the awards for the second-straight season.

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Frostburg State junior Nate Canapp was named the 2023-24 Mountain East Conference Swimmer of the Year on Wednesday afternoon, while Head Coach Matt Brinton took home both the Men's and Women's Coach of the Year, both receiving the awards for the second-straight season.

Canapp turned in four top-three finishes at the GMAC/MEC Swimming Championships, including a runner-up finish in the 1650 freestyle, and third-place finishes in the 1000 freestyle, 500 freestyle and 400 IM. He recorded the top time in the MEC in the 500, 1000 and 1650 freestyle events, earning first team All-MEC in each. In addition, Canapp also helped FSU to a fourth-place finish in the 800 free relay at the championship meet. During the season, he set individual program records in both the 500- and 1,000-yard freestyles, while also being a member of the record-setting 800-yard free relay team.

Under Coach Brinton, the Bobcats repeated as MEC Men's and Women's Swimming Champions in 2023-24, with the women earning their third consecutive title. In the final women's standings, Frostburg scored 964.50 points to place third overall, while the men finished the four-day championship meet with 1,303 points, good enough for second place. Both places were the highest-ever for the program at the combined championships.
