Women's Swimming Concludes Regular Season with Loss to UMW
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Frostburg State Women's Swim team lost to Mary Washington on the road Saturday afternoon 165-97.
After UMW kicked off the meet with a win in the 200-yard medley relay, junior Lydia Nebiolo began the individual races with a dominant win in the 1,650-yard freestyle, as her time of 18:06.29 was more than 20 seconds faster than her closest competitor. She would also go on to win the 200-yard backstroke in 2:15.78, becoming the lone Bobcat to record multiple individual victories.
Junior Kendall Hooper also had a solo win, with her 2:14.20 just good enough for first in the 200-yard butterfly before placing second in the 100 fly at 1:00.73. She also earned a runner-up spot in the 100-yard free at 55.72. Fellow junior Natasha Paciello had a pair of second places in the breaststroke, finishing in 1:12.01 for the 100 and 2:36.26 in the 200.
Freshman Rachel Rickabaugh came second in the 200-yard free at 2:01.95, then placed third in the 500 free at 5:30.43. Also in the freestyle races, freshman Gabriella Douglas (25.69) and senior Liz Perry (25.83) went 2-3, respectively, in a tightly-contested 50 where the top five spots were all separated by less than a second.
In the 100-yard back, FSU again put up the second- and third-fastest times, with freshman Jayme Meadows (1:03.74) and sophomore Gabriela Betancourt (1:03.89). Rounding out the meet on a high note, the 400-yard free relay team of Perry, Nebiolo, Hooper, and Douglas won with a time of 3:43.56 for the final win of the day.
With the loss, Frostburg ends the regular season with a record of 7-5, while Mary Washington improves to 6-2. The women next return to the pool for the GMAC/MEC Championships from February 14-17 in Canton, Ohio. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
