Women's Swimming Wins Every Event in Senior Day Victory Against Falcons
FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State Women's Swimming team took first place in every event during their Saturday home victory over Notre Dame (Ohio).
Prior to the meet, FSU honored its trio of senior swimmers in Maree Dieterich, Liz Perry, and Riley Petrick for their final home meet of the season.
The Bobcats began the meet by taking first and second in the 200-meter medley relay, with the team of sophomore Gabriela Betancourt, Dieterich, junior Kendall Hooper, and Perry tops with 2:07.97, followed by junior Natasha Paciello and freshmen Jayme Meadows, Alexis Ramsey and Gabriella Douglas in 2:10.90.
Frostburg took the top three places in the 800-meter freestyle, with juniors Lydia Nebiolo (9:55.89), Tiernan Taggart (10:29.90), and Sydney Mills (11:08.12). Nebiolo (2:33.94) also won the 200-meter backstroke, followed by Betancourt (2:40.10) and Petrick (2:44.58).
Another 1-2-3 showing for FSU came in the 200-meter free, as freshman Rachel Rickabaugh won in 2:19.26, with juniors Amanda Soustek (2:24.13) and Amaya Burke (2:24.24) taking second and third, respectively. A narrow race unfolded in the 50-meter free, as Douglas eked out a win by .01 seconds, with her 28.63 just enough for the victory.
Meadows (2:36.01) was the first of three Bobcats in the 200-meter IM, as Paciello (2:39.32) and Perry (2:44.67) were just behind her. Hooper (2:33.01) did the same in the 200-meter butterfly, where she was joined by freshman Morgan Greenlee (2:37.95) and Ramsey (2:40.39). Paciello (2:53.88) and Hooper (2:59.93) would also go on to finish first and second, respectively, in the 200-meter breaststroke.
Perry (1:04.01) and Burke (1:04.44) supplied a one-two punch in the 100-meter free, while Rickabaugh (4:56.92), Taggart (4:58.56), and Soustek (5:04.94) went first to third in the 400-meter free.
In the final event of the meet, the team of Burke, junior Alexis Council, Nebiolo, and Douglas won the 200-meter free relay in 1:54.46, while Taggart, Soustek, Meadows, and Rickabaugh took second at 1:59.79.
With the win, Frostburg improves to 7-2 on the year, while NDC falls to 1-7. FSU returns to action on Saturday, January 20 for a tri-meet against hosts UMBC and Salisbury at 1 p.m. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
