Pintar, Castejon Secure Comeback Victories to Give Women's Tennis Win Over Fairmont
FAIRMONT, W. Va. – The Frostburg State Women's Tennis team picked up an important MEC victory on the road against Fairmont State by a narrow 4-3 final score.
Sophomore Alyssa Kush and freshman Lauren Ceballos picked up an easy 6-1 win at the top doubles spot, followed by juniors Lorena Pintar and Julia Ramos winning 6-2 to give the Bobcats the opening doubles point.
The Fighting Falcons took each of the first three singles matches in straight-set wins, putting them ahead 3-1 in the meet and needing just one more match to take the overall victory. Junior Mariaspa Kotsiou was able to secure a 6-4, 6-4 decision at the No. 6 spot, while Pintar (4-6, 6-0, 6-4) and freshman Patricia Castejon (2-6, 6-3, 6-4) each battled back from first set losses to pick up the two needed points for the Bobcats to win in comeback fashion 4-3.
With the win, Frostburg improves to 9-9 on the year, while Fairmont drops to 8-7. The Bobcats are back on the court Tuesday, April 23 as they travel to Salem for a 3 p.m. match. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
