Women's Tennis Secures First Winning Season in Over a Decade with Home Win Over D&E
FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State Women's Tennis team picked up their fourth straight victory on Friday afternoon, taking down Davis & Elkins at home with a 5-2 final.
Frostburg knotted two wins in singles play, both by scores of 6-1, with sophomore Alyssa Kush freshman Lauren Ceballos getting the job done in No. 1 doubles, and juniors Lorena Pintar and Julia Ramos picking up the victory in No. 2 doubles. The team of freshman Patricia Castejon and junior Mariaspa Kotsiou fell short in their No. 3 doubles match with a 6-2 score.
Kush earned the win at No. 1 singles, playing for a 6-3, 6-4 score, as Ramos dominated in the No. 2 singles spot, coming out on top of a 6-1, 6-2 match. Castejon won her contest in the No. 5 slot with a final of 6-2, 6-3, with Kotsiou bringing it home for the Bobcats in No. 6 singles with a 6-1, 6-2 win. Ceballos and Pintar fell just shy in their No. 4 and No. 5 contests, taking both matches to three sets with a 6-4, 4-6, 4-6 final for the former, and a 2-6, 7-5, 1-6 final for the latter.
With the win, Frostburg improves to 11-9 to secure their first winning season since 2010, while D&E goes to 5-8 with the loss. The Bobcats will return to action, going on the road to face West Chester at 1 PM on Sunday, April 28 for their regular season finale.
