- May 12:00 PMLeaders-in-Residence Series: John Adams, speaking on safety leadershipMr. John Adams, Director of Safety, KCI Technologies, will speak on safety leadership. He graduated from FSU with a Bachelors of Science in Communication Studies ('12), with a focus on interpersonal and organizational communication. After graduating, Adams entered into the Civil and Environmental Engineering industry utilizing his previous work-related experience of hazardous materials and started working as an Industrial Hygiene Technician in 2014. He has worked for KCI Technologies, Inc. since 2017 and progressed to becoming a Senior Scientist and Project Manager where he consulted on Occupational Safety for his clients, some of which include The Smithsonian Institute, the Army Corps of Engineers, the Maryland Port Administration, The Johns Hopkins Hospital System, and the Architect of the Capitol in Washington DC. In 2024, Adams stepped away from his role as a consultant for KCI’s clients and was appointed as the Director of Safety. In this role, he manages the safety program for KCI’s 80+ offices and over 2,700 employees across the country. He is responsible for driving a culture of safety consciousness for his fellow Employee Owners and advising KCI’s leadership on trends in occupational safety. Currently, Adams is an active member of the American Society of Safety Professionals’ Chesapeake Chapter and is a Board Certified Safety Professional (CSP).

These changes by themselves are neither good nor bad but do represent a marked acceleration in the pace of our lives and access to almost anything. Our environment, in turn, has become more volatile and our lives more vulnerable, and this calls for an unprecedented need for responsibility and belonging. How do we achieve this? What role can each of us play?Tibetan Monks of The Mystical Arts of Tibet is presented in partnership with the Allegany Arts Council.CES is supported in part by a grant from the Maryland State Arts Council, and receives financial support from the Allegany Arts Council and the City of Frostburg.
- May 16:00 PMBattle of the Classes Upperclassmen vs. UnderclassmenBattle of the Classes is a competitive event where the upperclassmen compete against the underclassmen in a series of games, challenges, and activities to earn points to win the overall game. This will be on Thursday, May 1 from 6-9 p.m. in the Cordts Bobcat Arena. Each class will compete as a team and each team will be represented by their own color. Teams earn points after every challenge they win, and each challenge is worth a certain number of points.
