Calling All Young Buccaneers to Attend Frostburg’s Pirates Ahoy! Event
Jun 28, 2023 8:00 AM
The Frostburg State University Children’s Literature Centre, in collaboration with the City of Frostburg, have once again teamed up to provide a free day of pirate merriment, tales, treasures and treats for young readers across the region at the annual Pirates Ahoy! event on Saturday, July 8.
Registration for the day’s events will begin at City Place at 9 a.m. This will also be an opportunity for interested buccaneers to register for the Pirate Ships for Pennies Contest (visit the Children's Literature Centre web site for directions to enter).
Following registration at 9:15 a.m., pirates can participate in the Scallywag Walk to Hotel Gunter for a presentation by Lee Harper, illustrator of Turkey’s Sandtastic Beach Day. Lee will sign autographs at the conclusion, and all attendees will receive a treat and the chance to win surprise giveaways.
Throughout the day, other buccaneer activities will include pirate crafts, games, a photo contest and a treasure hunt. Pirates will also have the opportunity to participate in a Mystery Pirate Treasure Hunt along Frostburg’s Main Street where they will have to solve clues in an effort to locate the treasure. Young buccaneers will also be challenged to complete numerous pirate activities and crafts to become a Certified Pirate Expert.
Local law enforcement will offer Lemonade with the Law at the Frostburg Police Department, and Frostburg area businesses and restaurants will be open offering specials for visiting buccaneers. Those dressed in their best pirate attire can also enter the costume contest for a chance at some great prizes.
This year’s Pirates Ahoy! is sponsored by Frostburg State University, FSU’s Children’s Literature Centre, the City of Frostburg, Somerset Trust Company, the Community Trust Foundation, Frostburg First and Main Street Books.
The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact the Children’s Literature Centre at 301-687-3133 or via email at clc@frostburg.edu. Visit the Pirates Ahoy web site for details or visit their Facebook page.
