WHEELING, W. Va. – The Frostburg State Volleyball team fell 3-0 on the road to Wheeling Tuesday evening.
 
FSU began the match with the first two points, as junior Maya Johnson had a kill followed by sophomore Devin Brunk's ace. The Cardinals immediately responded, taking seven of the next eight for a four-point lead, but Frostburg answered through back-to-back kills from freshman Nevaeh Ware, while Brunk put down a score and senior Amanda Knieper netted an ace to regain a 10-9 advantage. Each side traded runs with Wheeling going up 17-13 following a trio of kills by Camryn Matus, however the Bobcats again kept them from running away with the set, as sophomore Dani Kunkle joined Johnson and freshman Adele Evans on kills to hold a narrow 19-18 lead. After freshman Bailey Rafferty netted a kill, WU took all of Frostburg's momentum away with six straight points to win the set 25-20.
 
The Bobcats again came out quickly to start the second, doing most of their damage through the block, as junior Paige Mock combined with Brunk and Johnson three times while sophomore Emery Kuebler tacked on an ace to lead 4-1. FSU held onto a multi-score lead as Evans, Johnson, and Mock combined for five total kills before the latter and Kunkle went back-to-back for a 15-11 advantage. Kunkle then found the floor and immediately earned an ace, while Brunk, Mock, and Ware went for three consecutive kills and a commanding 21-16 score. From that point, WU went on a surge, taking eight in a row for a stunning 24-21 lead. Frostburg fended off a pair of set points through a Mock kill and a combo block with Brunk, however a Cardinal kill ended things 25-23.
 
Frostburg began the third with Kunkle and Kuebler finding the floor early, with three straight Wheeling points giving them a 4-3 advantage. The sides went back and forth as Ware's kill put FSU ahead by a point, but the next four went to WU for a 9-6 score. Wheeling pushed their lead out to 13-9 before Mock and Kunkle went back-to-back on kills before combining on a block to pull within one. The Cardinals hit back with six of the next seven, seeking to put the match away up 19-13. FSU wouldn't be able to recover from their deficit, as WU's advantage proved too much to overcome in the 25-17 set loss.
 
Kunkle led the attack with nine kills, while Brunk and sophomore Allison Brown led the defensive effort with nine digs apiece. Mock proved once again to be a force on the block with a match-high seven, as Kuebler and Rafferty combined for 28 assists in the effort.
 
With the loss, Frostburg drops to 9-14 on the year, while Wheeling improves to 14-12. FSU will return to Bobcat Arena for their home finale on Friday, November 7 against Salem (WV) at 7 p.m. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
