Spadoni Carries Women's Rugby to Dominant Road Victory Over E&H in Regular Season Finale
EMORY, Va. – The Frostburg State Women's Rugby team took their regular season finale with a dominant 46-5 victory over Emory & Henry on Friday evening.
Frostburg quickly got on the board to get the game going early, as sophomore LJ Jordan ran the ball in for a 20-yard try, setting up freshman Natalie Allen to put the conversion through the uprights for an early 7-0 Bobcat advantage. After both teams showed some competitiveness on both sides of the ball for the next span of minutes, freshman Scout Spadoni completed a short run for another FSU try out of a scrum, as a conversion from Allen put the score at 14-0 around the 17:30 mark.
Just seven minutes later, junior Jaz Romero passed to freshman Ellis Lysse on the left side, setting her up for a perfect run into the endzone, where she was able to put the ball down for a try and a 19-0 Frostburg lead. Continuing their spark, Spadoni burst down field for a 35-yard run for her second try of the day, allowing Allen to knock down the conversion to push the game to 26-0 just three minutes later. With around a minute and 15 left in the first, Spadoni again picked up the ball out of a scrum, finding herself with another short run into the endzone, sending the game into the half with a 31-0 score.
Both teams battled back and forth for the beginning of the second, until Spadoni recorded her fourth try of the night, again off a scrum, trotting in for the 36-0 FSU advantage. Emory & Henry was able to work well down field, securing their first points of the night, adding a try to bring the score to 36-5 with less than 20 minutes to play.
A few short minutes later, sophomore Camila Garcia dished a quick pass to freshman Awa Kanta, who was able to march in for another Bobcat try and a 41-5 game. As time winded down, Frostburg kept their foot on the gas, as Allen pushed through tackles to take the ball 40-yards to the house, capping off the game with a 46-5 final in favor of FSU.
With the win, Frostburg improves to 5-3 to finish out the regular season, while Emory & Henry sits at 8-3-2. The Bobcats have clinched their first-ever spot in the NIRA playoffs, with their first round details to be determined. For more information and updates, please visit frostburgsports.com.
