McCoy Earns Second Team All-American Honors at National Championships

PUEBLO, Colo. - In an outstanding finish to his remarkable pole vaulting career, senior Tom McCoy earned 11th place at the 2025 NCAA National Track & Field Championships on Thursday.

Among a field of 23 competitors, McCoy cleared 4.82m on his second attempt before moving up to 4.97m and making it on his first try, by which five other athletes had already fallen out of the standings. The next mark of 5.12m proved difficult not only for the FSU standout, but also for eight others in the event.

Having cleared the 4.97m mark on his first try, he put himself into 11th overall while nine athletes moved on to the next height. With that placement, he has earned Second Team All-American honors, given to athletes that finish between 9th and 16th in their events, while the Nos. 1-8 finishers receive First Team All-American honors. McCoy was the first Bobcat to earn a spot at nationals since 2017, where former standout JR Lowery was also an All-American, finishing runner-up in the shot put at the Division III level.
