Canapp, Bond Go 1-2 in Distance Events to Lead Men's Swimming to Win Over Fairmont
FAIRMONT, W. Va. – The Frostburg State Men's Swimming team won their second consecutive meet with a 118-83 decision over Fairmont State on Monday evening.
After the Fighting Falcons had taken the 400-yard medley relay, the Bobcats made their mark in the individual events, as senior Nate Canapp and sophomore Jack Bond went 1-2 in both the 500 and 1,000 free at 4:57.24, 5:07.51 and 10:16.72, 10:38.30, respectively.
Sophomore Abe Bias also went on to impress during the meet, winning the 50 free in 22.59, then finishing just behind senior Jaden Tipton in the 100 free, going 1-2 at 49.98 and 50.05. Frostburg had one of their top races in the 200 IM, with sophomore Dylan King winning at 2:06.17 and completing a sweep with graduate PJ Emrich (2:08.22) and senior Sean O'Connor (2:21.35).
King went on to place second in the 100 fly (54.53), just ahead of freshman Bradin Norris in third (57.44), who also came runner-up in the 100 back (57.31). In the meet's final event, the Bobcats came out on top in the 400 free relay with Tipton and Bias joining junior Andrew Wetherhold and sophomore Tory Reynolds in 3:19.45.
With the win, Frostburg improves to 4-1 on the year, while Fairmont falls to 0-2. The Bobcats return home to face Mary Washington on Saturday, November 9 at 1 p.m. Information and updates will be posted to frostburgsports.com.
