Women's Tennis Dominates in Cardinal Invitational to Wrap Up Fall Play
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Frostburg State Women's Tennis team wrapped up their fall season on the road Sunday, facing Catholic University and Harford Community College in the Catholic Invitational.
Frostburg swept all of doubles play, winning four consecutive matches. The sophomore duo of Ella Troxell and Patricia Castejon took their doubles contest with an easy win, defeating Catholic 6-1. The team of senior Lorena Pintar and sophomore Lauren Ceballos then secured a 6-4 victory in their set, as Ceballos then went on to pair up with junior Alyssa Kush, taking down Harford 6-4 as well. Pintar also saw more doubles action, pairing with senior Syndey Goering for a 6-2 win over CUA.
The Bobcats continued their success in singles play, coming out on top in six of seven matches. Castejon earned a pair of victories with 6-2 and 8-3 scores against her opponents from Catholic, before Kush fought to bring it home in a well contested 9-7 match with HCC. Troxell picked up two singles victories as well, both over the Cardinals, collecting wins with scores of 8-3 and 8-0. Goering was credited with a 6-1 victory in her set with Catholic, as Kush fell in her other singles match of the day, coming up just shy to CUA with a 8-5 final.
FSU finishes their fall competition with a 1-0 record, having defeated Shepherd, while also playing in two tournaments. The Bobcats will await their spring season, gearing up to face Edinboro on the road on Sunday, February 16. For more information and updates, please visit frostburgsports.com.
