Women's Wrestling Sees Five Place in Tornado Open
BRISTOL, Tenn. – The Frostburg State Women's Wrestling team had a successful day down south in the Tornado Open with five athletes placing on Sunday.
Freshman Faith Day picked up a win in the 103 lb weight class for Frostburg, taking her second match of the day by pinfall in a matter of 4:41. In 110, freshman Elle Webster flew through the weight class, taking her first two matches by falls in times of 1:36 and 4:03. Webster saw another fall in the consolation semifinal round, this time in 1:02, sending her to the third place match where she was able to pin her opponent in 2:06 for a third place finish and 14.5 team points for the Bobcats.
Sophomore Brianna Holcomb and junior Solana Mottola ran through 131, both winning their first three matches with the former seeing two pinfalls and a tech fall, and the latter earning all pinfalls. Both fell in the semifinal round, before booking their ticket to the third place match with victories in the consolation semifinal round. Now having to face each other, Mottola was able to come out on top in a hard fought 9-4 decision, allowing her to take third and Holcomb to take fourth while both combining for a total of 25.5 team points.
Next up in the 138 lb weight class, freshman Trinity Butler earned two wins by pinfall in 3:36 and 1:17, while in 145 freshman Amber Hunter-Snyder picked up a tech fall win of 12-1 and a pinfall in 5:47. Sophomore Maria Hiles competed in the 180 lb weight class, picking up a win with a 10-0 tech fall, while junior Jada Arnold made her FSU debut, finishing in third place of 180, racking up two pinfalls in 2:59 and 2:11, along with a 12-2 tech fall, all for 12 team points.
Rounding out the placement finishers for FSU was sophomore Jocelyn Cacek in 207, winning her final four matches for another third place finish. Cacek racked up three pinfalls on the day, pinning her final opponent in 4:24 to capture third.
Frostburg next prepares for their second-ever Bobcat Open, hosting several teams and athletes from all over in Bobcat Arena on Saturday, February 1 with competition set to begin at 9 AM. For more information and updates, please visit frostburgsports.com.
