Women's Wrestling Combines for 10 Wins at Nationals to Conclude Memorable Season

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – The Frostburg State Women's Wrestling team took eight wrestlers to the NCWWC National Tournament on Friday and Saturday, with multiple athletes picking up a win during their time of competition. 
 
Sophomore Jada Fowler, in her second straight NCWWC National Tournament, won by decision in her first contest of 124 with a 15-8 read, before falling in her next two rounds.  Sophomore Brianna Holcomb also picked up a win on the day, winning her first match as well, taking a 12-0 tech fall in 131 before falling in her next two matches. 
 
Also competing in the 131 lb class was junior Solana Mottola, who took her first contest by pinfall in 2:17.  Mottola fell in her next appearance on the mat but won her two next consolation rounds, both by falls with one being in 11 seconds.  Being the lone Bobcat to move onto day two of competition, Mottola fell in her opening match on Saturday, concluding her time in the tournament.
 
Senior Shani Tyson took one victory in her appearance in 138, wining her first consolation match by fall in 3:27, as freshman Amber Hunter-Snyder represented Frostburg in the 145, winning her first consolation match as well, showing a pinfall in 4:24.  Sophomore Maria Hiles put up a fight in the 180 class for FSU, falling in both of her matches with a close 15-10 decision to finish out her day.
 
Junior Jada Arnold finished with two wins in her nationals appearance, taking a 8-1 decision, also in 180, while picking up a 9-2 decision in her second to last run in the consolation bracket.  Wrestling in 207, sophomore Jocelyn Cacek showed one win with a pinfall in 27 seconds, before dropping her second match in the consolation round to conclude her time. 
 
Frostburg concludes their historic season in just their second year as a program, finishing with a 10-1 overall record, three regional champions, and a second place overall finish as a team at the regional championships.
